REAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Despite almost sixty years of activism, advocacy, awareness and action, the world has produced more garbage, plastic or carbon emissions this year than ever before. We’re already experiencing crazier and more extreme weather events in Portland, including flooding, ice, the Heat Dome, and the forest fires in the Gorge, all of which affected East Portland more than any other part of the city. And yet instead of doing something serious about it, the Portland City Council has put bandaids on these issues like banning plastic straws and grocery bags. Good job, City Council…
I love the outdoor spaces that make our city unlike any other, including the beautiful but deeply neglected gem that is Rocky Butte. But East Portland has fewer neighborhood parks and wilderness areas than any other area of the city. Air pollution from cars and industrial business affects our lungs unlike anywhere else in the city. As your City Councilor I will invest in more green spaces in our neighborhoods, fight for more robust transit options East Portland, leverage the good work of programs like the Portland Clean Energy Fund, and build a more resilient city.
